As a Montessori kid, I have an almost pathological need to recycle and was previously really bothered by the lack of plastic recycling near my house and the difficulty of doing everything else. However, I just found out today that in Denmark, everything except metals and glass get burned. It's what runs the power plants. They even import garbage from the UK for this purpose. It's hard to wrap my head around, but it seems a pretty elegant solution and makes me feel a lot better about my trash.
