83: Two Bits

My cargo bike is living up to my every fantasy. I'm getting much better at using it. After the brutal all uphill with the gears not working ride back from the viking festival last week my muscles have strengthened up quite a bit. I also have learned how to use the gears, which are the opposite of old multi-speed bikes, needing you to stop peddling to switch gears. I went to the ocean on Sunday. It was gorgeous ride all through farmland and little villages. The best part was that there was a bike highway the whole way, so I felt completely safe. The ocean was like Maine, sand dunes festooned with beach roses, a little ice cream stand and seafood restaurant and then just kilometers of sandy beach. I couldn't get my son to go in the water and I had the baby strapped to my chest, but it was nice to just sit and feel the salty breeze on my skin. There are about five beaches within an hour's bike ride of the house and I intend to explore all of them. Hopefully as I get stronger, I'll get faster too. Google Maps thought it should have been a 30 minute bike ride, but with my heavy SUV trike it was more like 50....
