I biked to a viking festival this weekend past. There's a big archeological site and modest museum about 15 minutes away, where there had once been a big viking fortress. I thought it'd be like a renfair, and while there were people selling things and lots of costumes, it was way more authentic. People from all over had actually come to camp out for the week and reenact viking battles. As a result I spent the entire time saying "Ack! Walter don't touch that axe! No! Not that one either!" as each little tent had a little axe to chop firewood. There were kids there, but it was definitely not toddler friendly. It was neat though to see all the viking clothes and other historical reproductions from a culture and era I'm not particularly well versed in.
