8: First Trimester Fears

This was true of both pregnancies. I spent pretty much the first 16 weeks freaking out that it could end any day, especially with the pressure I felt the first time with my mom having told the whole world and being so excited about her first grandchild. Thankfully I'm out of the woods, though I won't really relax until this pregnancy hits the 34 week mark, when I can be confident that even if I go into premature labor, I'll get a healthy baby out of it. The worst part of that first trimester is sometimes you will get spotting (like the onset of your period) when the egg implants itself on the uterine wall, so that caused double freak out. My doctor tells me that the 16 week miscarriage is incredibly rare, but I know one woman personally who it's happened to and two in the minor internet celebrity sort of way. This time round my mommy coworkers all laughed at me for my paranoia about miscarriages, diseases and birth defects....
