I remember in my 20's, when Seeking Shelter takes place, I used to get really depressed come summer. As a kid it represented the freedom to be creative, to explore, swim, sail, pick berries, write plays and read tons of books. As an adult it was no different than any other month. It really got me down. I barely get into it in the comic, but "Trudy" found me a place to rent day sailers and that was the year I felt like I had real summer. I'd go for a sail every weekend day and then swim in the harbor. It wasn't the same as being on an island for three months, but it was good enough.
