757: Tape Worm

The recent cold snap we’ve had reminds me of when I lived in Shanghai. The prevailing thought was that if it was above freezing, there was no need to use heat. I would teach in the public elementary schools that not only lacked heat, they didn’t even have windows in classrooms, just gaping holes in the wall letting in the frigid breeze. I wore five layers of clothes every day and only felt warm at night when I put on the heat in my apartment. The amazing thing was after visiting some friends in the country for Spring Festival, I discovered that sleeping cold made my body adjust to the temperature and I no longer felt miserable all the time. It made me wonder if instead of keeping the house right now at 66, if I dropped it to 45 or 50, would the subzero temperatures outside seem tolerable? Somehow I don’t think my son or husband, let alone the cats, will let me find out…
