Yearlings are probably the saddest demographic you see at shelters. I know everyone is all get a cat over a kitten and to some degree, I agree, but there's nothing worse than the poor kitten who kept being passed up and spends the most formative year of its life in a shelter. It's most likely to end up being a lifer. I was really happy when a good friend of mine was looking for a couple kittens and I had the opportunity to give her a feisty semi-feral who looked like she was going to become one of those lifers. She's now about 4 years old, happy, and very bonded to her human.
