Before I had children I rarely got along with men from Mexico, Central or South America. I am very macho. Men from these regions tend to be very macho and in general it would just end up being an annoyingly competitive interaction. However, since I've made a baby that's all changed. My husband theorizes that it's since I'm no longer "on the market", which is probably true, but from my perspective it's a change from competing to prove which of us is best, to having already won the contest and being given instant respect. It's really lovely, because I'm able to have the most interesting conversations with strangers that I was never capable of having before.
