On the topic of parasites that cats pick up, I was doing research on toxoplasmosis and was shocked to realize how hard it'd be to actually get it from your cat. You'd have to have an indoor/outdoor cat who had eaten something infected for the first time ever, left it sitting in the box for more than a day and then eaten something without washing your hands. I am hoping that like me, all cat wonders reading this wash their hands after cleaning the litter box. It's just common sense, right? And yet cat poop gets such a bad name while people go out and buy raw fish lunches from the grocery store without a second thought because it's labeled "sushi". Me, if it doesn't come with shiso and ginger (both plants that have naturally anti-bacterial properties) there is no way I'm touching uncooked fish!
