I always thought I was very present oriented. I really like getting gifts and it's saddened me that unlike when I was a kid, not everyone seems to bring presents to birthday parties. However, I realized quite recently that it's not the presents I like, it's the symbolism behind them. I love using things and thinking about the people who gave them to me. It adds great value and weight to the object, whereas a present from someone I don't know or have deep feelings from remains just an object, no more exciting than if I'd bought it myself, maybe less if it's not something I need. So I guess I'm much more relationship driven than present driven.
